The idea for establishment of the association Engineers Without Borders – Macedonia (EWB Macedonia) came in April 2006.
USAID mission in Macedonia asked Oliver Nacevski and Slobodan Ignatovski, Project Engineers of USAID Decentralization Project, to take care of all technical and logistic arrangements to the group of students and their mentors from the association Engineers without Borders at the University of Florida, USA. They intended to stay in Macedonia from May, 08 till May, 12, 2006 to collect the initial data for their project Modernization of the Solid Waste Disposal System of Kratovo, Macedonia, initiated by the Peace Corp volunteer in Kratovo, Ms Katrina Finn.
At the period when EWB-UF team stayed in our country, we have shared many experience and ideas which increased the willingness to establish similar association in Macedonia.
In the conversation with several colleagues - engineers with extend experience in Macedonia and abroad, the interest for such association that will work on identification and implementation of engineering projects in Macedonia has been confirmed, and funds will be provided by foreign donors, governmental institutions and local donors.
The EWB Macedonia association was established on November 29, 2006 by five co-founders: Oliver Nacevski, Slobodan Ignatovski, Vlade Petkovski, Meri Cvetkovska and Ljupco Dimitrievski, all civil engineers.
From the very beginning (June 2006) the founder of the EWB international network, Prof. Bernard Amadei, from the University of Colorado, USA, offered complete support to our association, and immediately after the legal registration of the association, it has been included in the international network of EWB under the original name - Inzeneri bez Granici - Macedonia.
